Tuesday’s Tip: How to Keep Lettuce

One thing I hate about the grocery store is when the lettuce is watered right before I put one in my cart or when I open a fresh bag of salad and it is wet.  To prevent the lettuce from wilting and spoiling quickly, I wrap the lettuce in a paper towel and pat it until dry.  If I bought romaine hearts, I keep the hearts wrapped in a dry paper towels, followed by a kitchen towel.  For the bagged lettuce, I pat dry and store in an airtight container.  I sometimes have to replace the paper towels or pat the lettuce in the airtight container if it becomes wet again, but this process prolongs the life of my greens.  Give it a try!

Stay hungry…
