When I was younger, I loved the double and triple chocolate desserts and hated fruit desserts. But, the lone exception was fig newtons, which I didn’t really consider dessert anyway. I haven’t had fig newtons in awhile and had actually been craving them. I toyed with the idea of making homemade ones, but didn’t get around to it, and I didn’t want to buy an entire package because, well I didn’t need to have that temptation around. I found a recipe for a honey fig yogurt smoothie when I was browsing instagram and thought I would give it a try. I modified it a bit, and when I took my first sip, my fig newton craving disappeared! It tasted exactly like one in smoothie form. If you like fig newtons, I highly suggest you give this smoothie a try!
1/2 Cup Unsweetened Almond Milk
1/2 Cup Water
1/2 Cup Greek Yogurt
4 Dried Figs, stems removed and cut in half
1/2 Frozen Banana
1 Date, pitted
1 TBSP Honey
1 TSP Fresh Lemon Juice
1 Scoop Vanilla Protein Powder
Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth consistency
It was a bit sweet, but next time I am going to only put a drizzle of honey in the blender.
