Last Friday, my dad was in LA supporting me for the LA Marathon. Before he arrived, I sent him a list of restaurants and one of the restaurants he picked was A.O.C., located at 8700 W 3rd Street, near Cedars-Sinai hospital. I had been for brunch with my mother, but was couldn’t wait to return for dinner, so I was ecstatic when my dad picked the restaurant! After looking over the menu, we decided to share the below.
-The farmer’s plate – winter vegetables, chickpea purée, muhammara (hot pepper dip), burrata & grilled toast
-A salad of charred carrots, beets, labneh (Greek yogurt), tahini & sesame seeds
-Cauliflower, curry & red vinegar
-Diver scallops, brussels sprouts, pancetta & parsnip
-Grilled skate, israeli cous cous, & citrus chutney
While we enjoyed all of the dishes we ordered, our favorites were the grilled skate and curried cauliflower. I decided to try my hand at the curried cauliflower at home and was pleased with the outcome. Follow the recipe below for my version of the A.O.C. curried cauliflower!
1 Head of Cauliflower
Turmeric, Curry Powder, Cumin, Sweet Paprika (2 TSP each)
Pinch of Salt
1/4 Cup EVOO
Preheat oven to 350
Cut cauliflower into chunks
Pour EVOO into bowl and add spices.
Whisk until combined
Add cauliflower chunks and mix until cauliflower is coated
Pour into baking dish
Bake in oven for 30 minutes, or until cauliflower is tender and starting to brown on outside
Serve and enjoy!
My recipe wasn’t too far off of the recipe from the A.O.C. cookbook. Add a little butter, a onion, coriander, white wine vinegar, and cilantro, and you are there! Here is the full recipe how-to from chef and co-ownder of A.O.C. and a 2006 James Beard Award winner, Suzanne Goin: http://www.laweekly.com/restaurants/finally-an-aoc-cookbook-a-preview-curried-cauliflower-recipe-suzanne-goin-and-david-lentzs-cooking-channel-debut-2382974
Here are a few images of A.O.C.. I hope you give this restaurant and recipe a try! I can’t wait to go back and enjoy the wine list!
