Mercado-West Third Street is OPEN!

For the past few months I have been driving by the vacant spot that was to become Mercado everyday and counting down the days until the opening.  Well, yesterday was a great day because Mercado on West 3rd street finally OPENED!!!  If you aren’t familiar with Mercado on West 3rd, is co-owner Jesse Gomez’s fourth restaurant of a classic and contemporary Mexican.  The other restaurants include Mercado Santa Monica, El Arco Iris in Highland Park, and Yxta Cocina Mexicana in Downtown LA.  Mercado’s bar pours over 70 premium silver, reposado and anejo tequilas.  The restaurant is an inventive mix of food, atmosphere and tradition, reflecting the heart & soul of Mexican dining.  The beautiful space, designed by Ana Henton of MASS architecture, is an eclectic fusion of modern design, accented with classic touches, that create the ultimate in intimate upscale dining, while remaining accessible and comfortable.
The menu, created by renowned Chef Jose Acevedo, exemplifies the cuisine and flavor of he and co-owner Jesse Gomez’s deep Mexican roots, featuring times such as Chef Acevedo’s signature Carnitas, created from a recipe handed down through generations.  With tortillas made by hand daily, the finest meats, poultry and seafood, flavorful sauces, carefully crafted ceviche, enchiladas and tacos, produce from the local farmers’ market, and everything made from the freshest ingredients, Mercado offers handcrafted Mexican cuisine, artful design, warm atmosphere and service that is both friendly and informed to guide each guest through the dining experience.

Fortunately I was able to attend a tasted at the restaurant before it opened.  Check out the dishes I had the chance to taste below!

During our meal, I was impressed with the level of the service, attention to details (they fold your napkin when you get up!!), and the taste of the food.  It felt like a restaurant that had been open for months!  I can already tell that Mercado is going to become a place I am going to frequent a lot, and am already ordering my next meal in my head!
