Red Velvet Heart Cake
Cake:
Follow the directions on boxes
Pour one mixed box into a circular 9 inch pan, and the other in a square 8×8 pan
Bake in oven for approximately 60 minutes or until cake tester is clean (place cakes on both racks and after 20 minutes switch)
After cakes are cooled, cut tops of cake to have even surfaces
Frosting:
1 Cup Butter
4 Cups Powdered Sugar
1 TSP Vanilla
1/4 Cup Greek Yogurt (or milk)
Red Food Dye (optional)
Using a mixer, beat butter until fluffy
Add 1 cup of powdered sugar and mix
Repeat
Add yogurt and vanilla
Add remainder of powdered sugar and a drop of red food dye, if desired. (You can add more to darken the shade of red)
After cakes have cooled completely, lay square cake at an angle on platter and frost one side
Frost one more side (one that touches frosted side)
Cut round cake in half and place on frosted square sides to make heart
Frost entire cake and decorate to your desire!
Champagne Float:
(From TheCoveteur.com Instagram)
I haven’t made this recipe yet, but I plan to make the float and use a sparking wine, Vertuze. The sparkling wine was launched in 2009, and uses grapes grown in the Arroyo Grande Valley in San Luis Obispo County. Both of their sparkling wines, Rose and Brut, are produced in traditional method of Champagne wines making.

And, I wanted to wish everyone a Happy Fat Tuesday! For those who do not know, Fat Tuesday (translated to Mardi Gras in French) is the practice of eating rich, fatty foods before the Lenten season begins! So, while you are enjoying your Fascnacht, think of what you will be giving up for Lent!
Stay hungry…
