This past weekend I had the opportunity to go back to Ann Arbor, Michigan, where I went to the University of Michigan for 4 1/2 years. If you don’t follow or like football, I went back for the Michigan vs. Notre Dame football game, which was the first ever Under the Lights night game in The Big House. Desmond Howard, Heisman Trophy winner in 1991, College Football Hall of Famer, and ESPN football analyst was honored in a pregame ceremony. We broke our own attendance record with 114,804 fans in The Big House. After a 14-0 deficit we staged a dramatic comeback and won the game 35-31 with 2 seconds left on the clock, when Denard Robinson found Roy Roundtree in the endzone. And you thought this was a food blog, huh?
I couldn’t go back to A2 without visiting my favorite restaurants or eating my favorite foods. My all-time favorite A2 food is a Pizza Bob‘s Chipati, which is pretty much a salad with a special Chipati sauce in baked-to-order pita bread. In my Chipati I get lettuce, spinach, green peppers, sweet red peppers, mushrooms, mozzarella cheese, and chicken. YUM. Since the sauce makes the Chipati (and is top secret…no, seriously they make their employees sign a confidentiality agreement and have begged my 2 teammates that have worked at Pizza Bobs for the recipe), I ordered a few bottles of the sauce from Pizza House. Pizza Bobs doesn’t have online ordering, so I ordered Pizza House’s Chipati sauce. I like Pizza Bob’s sauce more, but having Pizza House sauce is better than having no sauce at all.
I love the Chipatis so much that I attempted to make my own when I got back to Los Angeles. Simply cut a pita and stuff your salad in. Toast for a few minutes. Mine wasn’t as good as Pizza Bobs or Pizza House’s, but I will definitely make it again.
